RDL Dante™ Networked Audio Interfaces, Source Selector and Volume Control provide stability and flexibility for the Poppodium 013 Music Venue

The Poppodium 013 or Pop Stage 013, located in the southern Netherlands city of Tilburg, is the largest music venue in the area with three halls accommodating up to 2,700 guests. During a recent upgrade, an extensive ethernet cable network was installed in the facility. The primary reason for the installation was to provide Poppodium 013 with a fully operational Dante™ audio network that can easily handle the changing requirements of musical groups, stand-up comics, dance groups and special events.

“We are very happy with the RDL solution, especially the stability and flexibility which are important factors for us”

-Rene van Rijen Technical-Coordinator 013
The front-of-house mixing consoles as well as the zone processors and audio end points are all Dante enabled. For the distribution of the audio throughout the new facility, 013 chose the RDL RU-LB4 Line-Level Bi-Directional Dante Network Interface. The RU-LB4 converts 4 line-level audio sources to Dante and 4 Dante sources to line level.

A Dante-enabled mixing console located near the main stage of the Main Hall controls the sound in the hall. Dante Controller software is used to configure, route and control all of the networked audio from a computer in a single location. An additional feature of the system is the ability to adjust the audio levels remotely using a wireless connection. This makes it possible to adjust audio settings and levels anywhere in the 013 building where a network connection can be established. For example, this makes it possible for a DJ to be heard from any location in the facility including the Main Hall, the Jupiler Hall or from any of the foyers. The 013 management team required that an operator, located in the foyer, have the ability to select between multiple audio sources such as a DJ playing remotely within the facility or the audio coming directly from the Main Hall. They also needed the ability to mute the audio entirely from the same location. To meet these requirements, multiple RDL products were installed in a rack in the foyer. An RU-ASX4DR Remote Controlled Stereo Audio Selector paired with a D-RC4M 4 Channel Remote Control allows an operator to select between up to four audio sources. A D-RLC10 Audio Remote Level Control is used for master volume control. “We are very happy with the RDL solution, especially the stability and flexibility which are important factors for us,” says Rene van Rijen, Technical-Coordinator at Poppodium 013.
